Think deeply. Create bravely.

Located in the heart of Mount Victoria, Bertha Parvis Institute of Technology is a K–12 academic school with a strong senior‑secondary focus. We blend rigorous scholarship with hands‑on making so that curious learners become thoughtful problem‑solvers.

Academic Pathways for Senior Students

Our six senior pathways are designed for Years 11–13. Each programme cultivates BSc/MSc‑level readiness while remaining aligned with secondary standards—no tertiary qualifications are conferred by the school.

Computer Science & Data Systems (CS Pathway — BSc/MSc Readiness)

A rigorous pathway in algorithms, data structures, Python/Java, human–computer interaction and digital ethics. Research methods and sprint projects build scientific habits that prepare learners for BSc/MSc study, without awarding tertiary degrees at school level.

Digital Arts & Design Practice (DAD Pathway — MFA/MDes Readiness)

Studio‑based learning in design thinking, typography, UX, motion graphics and creative coding. Critiques mirror university practice; portfolio development meets MFA/MDes expectations, while assessment remains anchored in senior secondary standards throughout.

Applied Mathematics & Physical Sciences (AMPS Pathway — BSc/MSc Foundation)

Integrated modelling, calculus, statistics and experimental design with formal lab write‑ups. Capstone investigations and peer review signal BSc/MSc foundations, delivered through senior secondary assessment requirements and robust academic integrity.

Engineering Fundamentals & Technology (EFT Pathway — BEng/MSc Preparation)

Materials, electronics, CAD and systems thinking underpin design‑build‑test cycles. Workshops emphasise safety and sustainability, cultivating BEng/MSc preparedness while all credentials remain secondary‑level and clearly communicated.

Economics, Business & Social Enterprise (EBS Pathway — BCom/MSc Readiness)

Micro/macro analysis, accounting and entrepreneurship applied to real datasets and policy contexts. Learners produce evidence‑based reports to BCom/MSc expectations, assessed transparently against senior secondary benchmarks and ethical standards.

Biological Sciences & Environmental Stewardship (BSES Pathway — BSc/MSc Foundation)

Genetics, ecology and field methods rooted in Aotearoa New Zealand contexts. Practical work spans bioethics seminars and habitat surveys, building BSc/MSc foundations while evaluation strictly follows senior secondary academic standards.

Where We Lead

Among our pathways, two consistently demonstrate distinctive outcomes and momentum.

Computer Science & Data Systems (CS Pathway)

  • Purpose‑built lab spaces with privacy‑first data practices and safe experimental sandboxes.
  • Mentor‑led hackathons emphasising ethics, accessibility and responsible innovation.
  • Strong links with mathematics and design for truly interdisciplinary problem‑solving.

Digital Arts & Design Practice (DAD Pathway)

  • Studio critique culture with professional workflows from sketch to press and screen.
  • Authentic briefs drawn from community needs, building credible portfolios.
  • Creative‑coding collaborations with CS, joining aesthetics with robust functionality.
